April Fools Day brings out motorcycle humor

E-mail Print PDF

Who says motorcycle enthusiasts don’t have a sense of humor?

For those less than observant riders, Friday was the day of frivolity and foolery with reporters and writers across the media bringing their own April Fools slant to the news.

The big, bad government stepping in and requiring would-be bikers to ride a Trike while they took six months of safety courses was Basem Wasef’s April Fool’s contribution at About.com.

‘"Let's face it," DOT spokesperson Melvin P. Meyers said in a national news conference, "Motorcycles are inherently unstable vehicles. Placing a first-time rider on these two wheeled conveyances opens the door to certain injury, or even death."’

As if not to be out pranked, Wasef threw in another story just for good measure of Harley-Davidson owning up its Air-cooled engine technology was on the way out.

‘Harley-Davidson's notoriously nostalgic, 108 year practice of building only air-cooled engines (with the exception, of course, of the V-Rod Night Rod Special and V-Rod Muscle) is about to come to a screeching halt. Thanks to certification documents leaked by the EPA and California Air Resources Board, all engines in the 2012 Harley-Davidson lineup will feature a radiator discreetly wedged between each model's downtubes.’

The unlikely pair of Eric Buell and Bombardier Recreational Products came together for the ‘leaked press release’ reported by Asphalt and Rubber. It appears the man famous for bringing his racing performance (for a limited time anyway) to Harley-Davidson had found some common ground with the manufacturer of the unique Spyder.

dog‘A day ahead of its scheduled release, it would appear that someone A day ahead of its scheduled release, it would appear that someone inside Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) has leaked an announcement that Erik Buell Racing and BRP will form a new motorcycle company called Bomber Motorcycles. (BRP) has leaked an announcement that Erik Buell Racing and BRP will form a new motorcycle company called Bomber Motorcycles.’

Clutch and Chrome always enjoys this day of trickery and this year we used the opportunity of April 1st to report about the breaking news surrounding trained canines that could sniff out motorcycle exhaust systems over a certain decibel level.
